Organ Scholar at Westminster Abbey,
London, U.K.
American organist Carolyn Craig, FRCO, is currently organ scholar of Westminster Abbey, following an organ scholarship at Westminster Cathedral. Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, she earned her organ performance degrees in the United States (BM Indiana University ’18, MM Yale University ’21, MMA Yale University ’22) and first worked in the United Kingdom as organ scholar at Truro Cathedral between her degrees, in 2018/2019. From January 2024, alongside her work at the Abbey, Carolyn will succeed William Fox, Sub-Organist of St Paul’s Cathedral, and Ben Bloor, Organist of the Brompton Oratory, as a Junior Fellow of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
RSCM Summer Training Courses were a formative part of Carolyn’s education, and gave her her first taste of daily services, as she wrote in this month’s spotlight article for the UK publication The Organists’ Review. Carolyn was delighted to serve as organ scholar on the Newport, Charlotte, and Tulsa courses during her high school and undergraduate years, and as Course Organist for the Gulf Coast Course under the direction of Bruce Neswick in 2022. As a choir trainer, Carolyn has contributed particularly to probationer training but also to more general treble training at Truro Cathedral, Trinity on the Green in New Haven, CT with Walden Moore and Rachel Segger, Westminster Cathedral, and Westminster Abbey.
