| YOUTH YOUNG ADULTS PUBLIX COOKING SCHOOL: AUGUST 17, 6:00 The Summer ends for most people, but in Florida…it can continue until Christmas. Come and learn some recipes for summer grilling and fall cooking along with some great chocolate desserts that will make your mouth water. We will be in a hands-on demonstration and join in eating our creations after dinner. The Publix Apron kitchen is on San Jose right by 295. CONGREGATIONAL CARE PRESBYTERY SPIRITUALITY RETREAT Experiencing the Presence of God—A Spiritual Retreat September 26-27, 2008 (with optional Saturday overnight to September 28th You are invited to Montgomery Presbyterian Conference Center for a spiritual retreat focused on experiencing the presence of God in everyday life. The participants will gather at 6 p.m. for dinner on Friday night followed by an opportunity to share experiences in community and worship. On Saturday there will be structured time to learn about various spiritual practices and to experience them first hand. There will also be time for individual prayer and reflection as well as informal conversation with other retreat participants. An optional extension overnight Saturday enables participants to have a full weekend of spiritual retreat and adjourns after Sunday worship. Workshops include: Centering Prayer, Christian Meditation, Discernment, Family Spiritual Formation, Group Spiritual Practice, Imagination with Scripture, Labyrinth, Lectio Divina, Praying with the Psalms, Spiritual Direction, Spirituality for Children and Youth, Tai Chi as Body Prayer, Visual Spiritual Autobiography.

COMMUNITY LIFE RBI PROGRAM FEATURED ON CHANNEL 4 WJXT A local church group has reached out to children in a troubled apartment complex by showing the youngsters how to swing for the fences and much more.
For the past six years, Roger Maness of Riverside Presbyterian Church and a group of volunteers have brought the game of baseball to inner city kids with a program called RBI -- reviving baseball in the inner cities. read more... RALLY DAY AUGUST 24, 9:30 a.m. in the SANCTUARY Mission Minded - Undie Sunday, bring new underwear for DESC and stay for LUNCH after 11:00 worship Pre-school children, kindergarten and younger will go directly to their classrooms at 9:30 a.m. First grade through adults will all gather in the sanctuary at 9:30 a.m. for program and fun. First grade children will receive their Wonders of Worship invitation and Third graders will receive their Bibles. It is a very special day; you will not want to miss. There will be lots of information for all the upcoming fall Christian Education opportunities and lots of sign ups!! Prior to Rally Day you will receive in the mail Sunday and Wednesday information with full descriptions of all the classes for all ages. We have a great line-up with fabulous teachers and can’t wait for you to be in mission at Riverside. WONDERS OF WORSHIP We are offering again Wonders of Worship for first grade children this fall. For 7 weeks they will have the opportunity to learn more about how and why we worship the way we do. They will gather after the faith sharing with children (during the 11:00 service) and come to the educational building with Sophie. They will learn how to read a hymn, the Lord’s Prayer and the Apostles’ Creed, the Doxology and much more. They will also learn a few good tips for following the bulletin and saving the children’s bulletin for the sermon. We will begin on Sunday, August 24, and meet through Sunday, October 5. They will be presented to the congregation as more ready to be in worship on Sunday, October 12. | |
